Do your part, Kauai Recycling

Kauai, “The Garden Isle”, is one of Mother Earths splendid treasures. Those fortunate enough to have lived on Kauai for some time have witnessed tremendous change in social, economic and environmental trends. Increased popularity has led to increased development. Increased development has led to increased population and inevitably increased waste. It is our responsibility, as Kauaians, to ensure that our island is not overrun with trash. In our effort to keep Kauai clean and beautiful, we recommend L&T’s Alternatives¬† for your Kauai recycling solution. They offer a great service for a very reasonable fee. By recycling our waste, we can all become part of the solution to our landfill problems.

The Problem = Trash

Today, Kauai faces a landfill crisis. The #1 overlying issue is our lack of resources. All waste produced by Kauai residents and visitors is buried in Kekaha, the site of Kauai’s one and only landfill. The amount of trash buried in Kekaha amounts to an average of over one ton per Kauai resident. The Kekaha landfill is nearly full. This means the County of Kauai is faced with the daunting task of choosing a new site to burry Kauai’s waste.

The Solution

You can become part of the solution by recycling. L&T’s Alternatives can collect, haul and properly dispose of recyclable materials generated by residents, visitors and businesses.

What you can recycle: glass, aluminum, #1 and #2 plastics (includes grocery bags), newspaper, magazines, cardboard and white office paper.

Where the stuff goes: Tomra Recycling Network in Nawiliwili

The Cost

L&T’s picks up my recycling twice a month for $16. But you can pay as little as $8 for once a month pick up. L&T also provides the trash can where I keep my waste and does all the separating for me. Very convenient.
