Today, Kauai faces a landfill crisis. The #1 overlying issue is our lack of resources. All waste produced by Kauai residents and visitors is buried in Kekaha, the site of Kauai’s one and only landfill. The amount of trash buried in Kekaha amounts to an average of over one ton per Kauai resident. The Kekaha landfill is nearly full. This means the County of Kauai is faced with the daunting task of choosing a new site to burry Kauai’s waste.
