Devastating Automobile Accident

Hi,
Moses Hamilton age 26 of Kilauea, Kauai, was in an automobile accident on October 18, 2002. He suffered a broken neck and was immediately flown to Queen's medical Center in Honolulu where he remains in the Intensive Care Unit. Having broken his C3, C4 and C5 vertebrae, Moses is currently paralyzed from the neck down. He is a big hearted, generous, thoughtful, and deeply compassionate young man, much loved and admired by his family and friends.
As you can well imagine, his family is devastated. While trying to cope with the tragedy of Moses’ condition, they are also faced with a very difficult financial situation. Moses is in Queens Hospital on Oahu, while his family lives on Kauai. This means the rental of living quarters on Oahu, and frequent inter-island flights. His parents, Brad and Cherry, are presently switching off every 10 days, with one parent staying with Moses in Honolulu, and the other at home caring for their two other children. Of course, this means that neither parent is able to work full time.
The costs of such an accident are astronomical, and while insurance and various government programs will help with the medical costs, they apparently won’t provide financial assistance with the room in Honolulu, the cost of the inter-island flights, or even the severe reduction in the family’s income which will soon reach the level of affecting basic necessities.
We, the Friends of Moses, are reaching out to the community at large in an attempt to ease the burden so suddenly and randomly placed upon Moses and his wonderful family.
As a first step, we have created a website http://califmall.com/moses/ that enables family and friends to stay abreast of the situation, to make donations, send their good wishes, share stories about Moses, and offer words of hope and inspiration to the family. While this has been comforting to the family, and has helped to raise some financial aid, it really just isn’t enough.
We are asking for any help you can possibly give to the Hamiltons. Perhaps you would consider a new story with a link to our site, or perhaps you could suggest other avenues we might pursue or organizations on Kauai that could help. Frankly, we have no experience with anything like this, so any suggestions would be welcome.
Sincerely,
Kip Winsett
